Biking in Washington County

Put fun in high gear in Washington County, Oregon, where forest lands, quaint towns and rolling wine country form the backdrop for the perfect road or mountain bike ride.

The newly completed rails-to-trails project, the Banks-Vernonia State Trail, offers bikes--as well as pedestrians and equestrians--21 miles of uninterrupted, car-free, smooth riding. Even better, it connects to L.L. Stub Stewart State Park, which offers camping, cabins, and horse camping, as well as a day-use area and trails through its 1,673 acres.

For a map detailing these bike destinations--and all of Washington County--read more about our new County bike map, which is available for free.

Another new local cycling resource is the webpage of Portland area recreational cycling maps, which the Portland Bureau of Transportation has divided into sections, and illustrate optimal routes for cyclists navigating the roads of Washington County, among others.

Our friends at Travel Oregon also have a comprehensive bike resource, www.rideoregonride.com
